Pattern: Bella Swan's La Push Beanie

In anticipation of Eclipse being released next week, I thought I would re-post this pattern from my other blog. Enjoy!

I wanted to recreate Bella's beanie, from the first movie and found this pattern, but it did not work for me. I made a bunch of changes, and feel pretty confident calling this pattern my own. This first pattern will make a tight beanie (I used Super Saver or something like that), the second pattern (scroll down) will make a thicker beanie, much closer to the one that Bella wears in La Push!

Pattern for smaller density yarn:
(I orignally used this pattern, but had to make a lots of changes, so this is my own take on it)
This is for standard yarn, maybe 3 ply?

Hook size: H/8-5.00MM

Abbreviation meanings:
Rnd: round
Ch: chain
Dc: double crochet
Fpdc: Front post double crochet
Bpdc: Back post double crochet
Ss: slip stitch
Fpsc: Front Post single crochet
FO: Fasten off

Ch 1 or use magic circle, Ch 2
Rnd 1: 12 dc in ring, join with 1 ss, (ch 2 doesn’t count as a dc) (12)
Rnd 2: ch 2, * 2 fpdc around next dc, 2 dc in next dc* rep from * to * around, join with 1 ss (24)
Rnd 3: ch 2, * 2 fpdc, 1 dc, 2dc in next dc* rep from * to * around, join with 1 ss (30)
Rnd 4: ch 2, * 2 fpdc, 2 dc, 2dc in next dc* rep from * to * around, join with 1 ss (36)

Rnd 9: ch 2, *2 fpdc, 7 dc, 2dc in next dc* rep from * to * around, join with 1 ss (66)

Rnd 24: ch 1, *2 fpsc, 9 ss* rep from * to * around, join with 1 ss, FO (66)

The beanie (see how it is tighter than Bella's and not as thick, it definitely needs to be made in the larger size!)

  1. Hi there. I'm looking to make this hat soon, but as I'm looking over the pattern, I have some questions. (pattern for the thicker yarn)

Rnd 2 has 2fpdc in same st. This is, of course, an increase.
Rnds 3 through 8 have 2 fpdc, which I'm assuming means 2 seperate stitches, not an increase.
Rnds 9 through 13 however... has 2fpdc, which would read as an increase? The stitch count went up to 66 from 60 in the previous rnd.
Rnds 22 and 23 also have the same increase, but the stitch count doesn't change.

Sorry if I'm just easily confused, but I read "2 fpdc" and "2fpdc" as two different directions. The first being 2 seperate stitches, the second being 2 in the same stitch.

Could you please clarify that for me? I just want to make sure I'm reading your pattern correctly, as I really want to make this hat. ;)
    Thanks so much!

  2. Thanks so much for your comment! I see now that I messed up my spaces. I fixed it for you! Basically in your first round you make 2 fpdc in one stitch. From there on out, you will always be doing 1 fpdci n each fpdc, to make the two straight lines down the hat. You will be increasing in the dc or the bpdc. The last increase was round 8. I edited it, does it make sense now?

  3. Yes, thank you so much! I am starting on the hat now, and will have pictures of it on my Ravelry project page when I am done. I will of course comment here again with a link so you can see how your pattern worked for me :)
With snow falling outside (first of the year) I really need a hat, and this one just screamed for me to make. Plus hubby just bought me the newest movie today (Eclipse) so it's begging to be done NOW! LOL

  4. Yay me! I finished the hat, but had to adjust the pattern a bit. More details on my project page (http://www.ravelry.com/projects/smscreen/bellas-beanie) and blog (http://sss-screen-name.blogspot.com/2010/12/bella-swans-la-push-hat-edited-version.html)
Thanks so much for the pattern!

  5. I have made this hat several times from another crocheter's interpretation of the hat. My daughter loves it and wears it often, even though she is not really a hat person.
    Great job on your pattern!

    1. Hi Brandy. It should say in, not around. It is just increasing by 1 dc as before. Make sense?
