Pattern #181: La Push Blanket

This pattern is a pretty obvious choice for today. I was supposed to have my blanket finished, for the Crochet Along. It's not completely done, but getting close (update later today). Did any of you see the movie last night?

La Push Crochet Along: Update

I have been working very hard on my blanket, but I just did not finish in time. Maybe I bit off more than I could chew, maybe I planned on crocheting at a time when I couldn't... I was going to finish on our drive to and from Mexico this weekend, until hubby informed me that there would be 6 of us in his truck. Talk about a tight squeeze! haha Thankfully, we only had 4 for the return trip (no, we didn't leave 2 there... they just went in another car), but I had left my blanket at home for space reasons. I have almost completed the blanket though, and I probably just need a few more hours for those final rows of joining & the edging. I thought I would share my pics from Tuesday night though, when I tried to finish it...

This is when the kitten was just hanging out with me. She took a nap at the end of the couch as I joined rows...

My wonderful hubs took a picture of me, covered in my la push blankety goodness, on my phone! That bad posture is probably why my back hurts so much. :(


Can I really call her a kitten still? I mean, she is like 8 months old now... Anywho this is when I gave up. I could not get much more done, and she would not leave my lap.

Wondering why you cannot click on the pattern link? Well, the pattern is not yet created. I have found many cool Twilight patterns that do not yet have crochet versions. I looked at this scarf and decided it would be a pretty easy switch. That and the pattern I planned on posting, Edward & Bella & Jacob finger puppets, seemed a bit weird and I knew I would not want them once completed! But if you still want to see that pattern, let me know and maybe I will post it later this week.

Pattern: Bella Swan's La Push Beanie

In anticipation of Eclipse being released next week, I thought I would re-post this pattern from my other blog. Enjoy!

I wanted to recreate Bella's beanie, from the first movie and found this pattern, but it did not work for me. I made a bunch of changes, and feel pretty confident calling this pattern my own. This first pattern will make a tight beanie (I used Super Saver or something like that), the second pattern (scroll down) will make a thicker beanie, much closer to the one that Bella wears in La Push!


Pattern for smaller density yarn:

This is our next Twilight project. Rosalie wore this scarf in the cafeteria scene in the first Twilight movie. I have found many knit versions of this pattern, but this is the only crochet version.

Alright. Seven things about Megan:
1. I broke my ankle while jumping over a pile of laundry in my (then) boyfriend's (now hubby's) room. The inner piece of the bone (my bro could tell u the name) snapped off and I now have 2 permanent screws in there. It does not bother me too often, unless I put a lot of dead weight on it (like sit with my feet on the table and computer on my lap) and then get up - it gets stiff.
2. I like to work out, but I'm lazy. We recently implemented a plan where every 25 workouts (2o min of physical activity, but only 1 counts per day) gets me a dvd. I love it! And really by we, I mean I, because I know I am motivated by that kinda stuff. I need sticker charts & rewards. It's a kind of conditioning which I no longer have to remember because...
3. I majored in psych and did 1 year of a Master's Program for my MFT (Counseling) before I realized it was not what I really wanted to do. I was raised that we don't quit, so withdrawing was really hard for me.
4. I was a cheerleader in college, but not in high school.
5. I lived in Salzburg, Austria for 5 months during my junior year of college. It was a wonderful experience and I do miss it at times. Especially living with my closest friends and being able to just hop on a train and visit another country.

6. We honeymooned in Mexico, on a cruise. During our snorkel trip, I was afraid of the drinks - scared of the water they served (it was a little boat for the excursion) and that the ice would melt into our drinks. So we kept getting free margaritas, and I drank them real fast, before the ice could melt. haha

7. I miss my family terribly, because my parents and my mom's side of the family (whom I saw at least once a month growing up) lives in Nor Cal. But it's too cold there. Can we all move to the central coast where it's a good mix of hot and cool weather?

La Push Crochet Along - Week 8

Granny Along Week 8

I cannot believe we are almost done with the Crochet Along! I am actually making some major progress. When you look at the picture below, with the square laid out, know that I completed the 2 in progress squares, and 2 more! So I only have 8 left! And weaving in the ends. I hate that part. Last night I wove in the ends on 5 or so squares, I figure it will be easier if I space it out in between crocheting these last few squares. We do have a long car ride on Friday, so I'm hoping I can get it done. But learning to join squares, while in the car, may be a challenge! haha

The extra task of this week: Describe your next project. Well, I have thrown a few in the mix while doing this one. I made some slippers for a friend and finished (finally!) that bunny egg cozy. Next I really need to finish the baby blanket for our friend (she's due July 20, so I have a bit of time) and work on onesies for my etsy shop. And, you know, open the etsy shop. :)

Granny Along Week #7

We're in the home stretch - and I have so much left to do! On the other hand - I only have to do 2 more squares with green. Just those two squares need the 4 rows, and I'm done! Can you see what a mess my green thing of yarn is?


Oh, and I met my goal of finishing 11 squares (for a total of 15 complete) on Monday. I want to do 10 or more this week. I am not sure if I can make the June 30th goal, but I will keep trying! I should be weaving in my ends as I go. That is the most hated part of crocheting for me! haha

Question: What is your hook of choice?

I prefer metal hooks - I just think they are nicer. But they do tend to get squeaky when my heads are all sweaty in these hot So Cal summers. I think my stitches are also a bit larger when using metal, but I'm not 100% sure of that!

I admit it, when I tried to think of gifts for my dad, I just did a search on Ravelry: wine, cigar, hawaiiana, glasses case, golf. Creative, I know. This pattern came up. It is a bit feminine, but I think it could be masculine with the right colors (black and brown).

It was designed by Drew Emborsky, better known as The Crochet Dude. He has some fun patterns over on his site.

June 15: Pirate Can Cozy - COMPLETED

Pattern #166: Pirate Can Cozy

What more can a dad want than a beer cozy with a pirate on front? Well, if you are my dad then a lot more. But I thought this was a nice and manly pattern. What about you?

This could also work for next week's theme: Grads. My cousins and bro and I all graduated from a high school where the Pirates were our mascot. Maybe these will be Christmas gifts, talk about a fun throwback!

Updated 12/8/2011: I finished this up for a Christmas gift for my brother this year. I had to make a few adjustments to the pattern, since I crochet tighter than most people. First, I went up a hook size. Second, I added a couple of rows to make it taller, and I used two contrasting colors (our school colors) for the stripes. I hope he likes it!

Arrggghh!

It kinda feels like it needs a mouth or something. Eh. I dunno. It works!
